Sport and recreation is enjoyed throughout the Parish, particularly cricket, rugby and association football, tennis, horse riding and walking. The local sport and leisure centre also provides a variety of indoor sporting facilities.
Cricket on the village green dates back to 1776 when the club was officialy founded. The Green is leased to Meopham Cricket Club who, in return for a peppercorn rent, maintain the Green both as a cricket ground and for the public to enjoy without restrictions except when a match is being played. Seldom is anything written about Meopham without reference to the "famous old cricket club and lovely village green on which cricket has been played for centuries". Meopham Cricket Club has opened its doors to membership from a wide area but it stills prefers to field a side all found from within the Parish. Other cricket clubs which flourish in the Parish are Harvel in its idyllic setting, close to its own village green, Nurstead, in the shadow of 'Nurstead Court and New Ifield, relatively new to the Parish but again in a very pleasant and quiet setting close to Priestwood Green.
Meopham Ladies Hockey Club was established in 1981 by local mothers at the village mother and toddler group and is now one of the foremost ladies hockey clubs in the Kent area. A small number of the founder members still playing although now mostly in the 2nd XI. Following various successful years the 1st XI eventually achieved Division 1 status in the Kent League and have maintained that position for the past three seasons. The club now runs three teams all playing in the Kent League with the 2nd XI in Division 8 and the Under 18 team in Division 2 of the Junior League.
Due to the success of the club and the League requirement that teams in the higher divisions are no longer allowed to play on natural grass pitches the club has not been able to play any league games within the parish since this ruling and all home league games are played on the astro turf pitch at Gravesend Rugby Club ground as this is the only local sports ground which is suitable.
League games start at the beginning of October and run until April the following year with a break throughout late December and early January to cater for the possibility of bad weather but there are pre-season friendly fixtures and tournaments and also post season tournament festivals to which Meopham Ladies Hockey Club has standing invitations.
Meopham Colts Football Club leases the football field at Judson's Recreation Ground and uses this as their home ground. The Colts has been run by local volunteers for the past 18 years, providing opportunities for local boys and girls to train and play football in the local North Kent and Medway Leagues. It fields seven (3 senior and 4 Junior) teams each weekend and besides Judson's Ground also uses pitches at Meopham school and Gravesend. Nurstead and Vigo also field representative football sides and use pitches at Culverstone and Meopham School.
Vigo Rugby Club is the nearest rugby club and grew up alongside the development of Vigo Village. It enjoys excellent playing and club facilities at its headquarters at Swanswood situated on the Parish boundary with Luddesdown. It engages in both league and friendly fixtures.
Meopham Tennis Club has its Headquarters at the rear of the Village Hall on the Wrotham Road. It has 5 hard courts, a club pavilion and an active social section. The club is open all year round and takes part in league and friendly matches with other clubs. It also has a junior section.
Tennis Courts built to County standard under floodlights are also available for public use at Meopham Tennis and Fitness Centre.
