Meopham and District Allotment Association had their Open Day on Sunday 2nd July 2017 and a great time was had by all who came. It was perfect allotment weather as it rained overnight turning into a beautiful English summer’s day with wall to wall sunshine in the stunning setting of Southdown Shaw.
There were games for the children, a tombola, refreshments, plant and cake stalls and a BBQ selling sausages from Spar of the Parade, Meopham. There was also a display from local Beekeepers and a local PCSO giving advice on home and allotment security.
Adam Holloway MP was in attendance and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the event. It was well attended by approx. 150 people and the sum raised for the Alzheimer’s Society was £314.09
We hope to make this an annual event again.
People were able walk around the allotments and get a feel for the kind of commitment needed when taking on one of these plots as well as seeing the wide range of fresh vegetables and fruit that can be grown.
Three people expressed an interest in taking on an allotment plot on the day. If anyone living in the Gravesham area would like an allotment or would like to talk to someone about it, there is an online form to complete. Just put Meopham Allotments into your search engine.
Many thanks
